The Do – A Mouthful (2008) | 1 Link

The Do – A Mouthful (2007)
MP3 | 192 kbps | English | 67.6 Mb | 52mn15s

The first note on the standard musical scale is “do” which is the last note also, representing what’s new and what’s old, giving the musicians and artist the latitude & longitude to re-invigorate any musical genre, from blues, rhythm & blues, jazz, bebop, doowop & hip-hop, not to mention rock & roll, and eitherway to sing or play you’ve got to do it with your heart & soul.
Enter the band with the note-scale name and you add a new picture to the frame, only it’s double entendre; for the “do” is the “do” who are doing a double take by rolling the rock uncovering the hole left in rock & roll after disco & pop skyrocketed to the top eclipsing all the other musical genre’s except for hip-hop.
Pop then jettisoned disco like a booster and flapped itÂ’s wings like a rooster, and crowed that it knowed all of the music and had taken the best and left the rest. Well the rest came, to put the picture back in the frame, and keep it simple like a dimple, on a teenagerÂ’sface, and are now filling the hole by popular demand spanning the space between the rock and the roll, with wholesomeness & simplicity that excite like electricity.
Dan & olivia are the “do” and are two of the freshest faces in view, and by being in between their influences span the scene, cause both the letter “n” and the sign “&” signify no end from old to new, and that’s what the “do” love to do.
A veneration from the “now generation” with classical & jazz music as prime sources of their inspiration, they training & gaining by tonic application, within the non-boundairies of jazz improvisation, applied to rock ‘n roll, to let their hopes, dreams & consciousness streams come to fruition through the root’s of their influenced musical intuition.
Thus, you can hear a bit of all the genre’s that you know, without having to categorize it so, because it’s been minimalized to the size befitting the sound by the “do”.
Tech & live, they thrive on the balance between swing & serene, to instill a fil in a picturesque scene, of subtle melodies, and distant rhythms while lyrically identifying various “ain’ts and ism’s” do’s, don’ts, will & won’ts”.
Dan callÂ’s, olivia answers, like a groove in between dancerÂ’s.
Dan plays, olivia sways sings in stylish praise, that float with hope for the now generation to cope with “the burden on their shoulder’s, and one can feel the weight, which is also double entendre, phonetically in contrast to the word “wait” but the do will let you know it’s not yet too late.
They get busy, cause thereÂ’s plenty to do thatÂ’s been left undone, and since the language of music is universal, everyday is a new dress rehearsal, for what to do and be doing; to stay up on the one, and now you can add this to the gift list.

The Complete Ella Fitzgerald Song Books (320kbps)

Info:
Bitrate: 320 kbps
Sample rate: 44 kHz
Stereo

The Ella Fitzgerald Songbooks were a series of eight studio albums released in irregular intervals between 1956 and 1964, recorded by the American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, supported by a variety of orchestras, big bands, and jazz quartets.
They are considered a cornerstone of 20th century recorded popular music, and as a whole, represent some of the finest interpretations of the greater part of the musical canon known as the Great American Songbook.

The New York Times columnist Frank Rich was moved to write a few days after Ella’s death that in the songbook series, Ella “performed a cultural transaction as extraordinary as Elvis’s contemporaneous integration of white and African-American soul. Here was a black woman popularizing urban songs often written by immigrant Jews to a national audience of predominantly white Christians.” Frank Sinatra was moved out of respect for Ella to block Capitol from re-releasing his own albums in a similar, single composer vein.

NIGHTWISH – Wishmaster (2000)

 Nightwish - Wishmaster (2000)

Nightwish is a very unique band that have really stood the test of time in the world of power metal. They’ve released plenty of full length albums and have gained huge success within the underground metal scene. Their unique sound is achieved by the use of Tarja Turunen’s operatic vocals and behind that the songs are dominated by the musical genius Tuomas Holopainen’s keyboard work and songwriting prowess.
“Although some might categorise Nightwish as a heavy metal band, the band’s symphonic arrangements and Tarja’s operatic vocals certainly broaden the appeal of their sound to a much wider audience. Nightwish are likely to appeal to those that like harder edged progressive music as well as art rock bands like October Project. The band is strong instrumentally generating significant—at times almost overwhelming—power from guitars, keyboards and rapidfire percussion yet it is complimented with equally sweet operatic style vocals. Tracks vary from heavy metal anthem to operatic ballad demonstrating significant virtuosity and range. The band’s blend of harder edged metallic rock arrangements with Tarja’s stunning vocals is highly original and has likely led to their international critical acclaim.”

My Review
Pearl Jam’s third birth comes with mixed emotion: whilst obviously being a musical success it also contains some of Eddie Vedder’s sad musings on Kurt Cobain’s death, most prominently in the haunting “Immortality”. Inside the cover art, a beautiful poem is included:

I waited all day.

you waited all day..

but you left before sunset..

and I just wanted to tell you

the moment was beautiful.

Just wanted to dance to bad music

drive bad cars..

watch bad TV..

should have stayed for the sunset…

if not for me.

External Reviews
It’s a sad paradox of these times that the artists who most successfully express our fears and anxieties are the ones who are least able to cope with the burdens of fame. Whether it’s Sinéad O’Connor, who masochistically invites humiliation with public displays of emotional nakedness, or Kurt Cobain, who finally just gave up, it’s sometimes tempting to say what Frank Sinatra once told George Michael – that is, “Stop complaining and enjoy the ride.” But then, Frank is not exactly the most sensitive guy himself.

No one regrets that he’s too famous now to be Ian MacKaye of Fugazi more than Eddie Vedder does. As it was for Cobain, it’s difficult for Vedder to adjust to the fact that the people who used to beat him up in school are now among his biggest fans. While Vitalogy is not the calculatedly anti-commercial album that In Utero was rumored to be (but really wasn’t) before it was released, the one designed to alienate all the fans Vedder doesn’t like, it is a wildly uneven and difficult record, sometimes maddening, sometimes ridiculous, often powerful.

“As privileged as a ~censored~” is how Vedder sums up his fame in “Immortality.” “Victims in demand for public show.” In “Corduroy,” success has left him disaffected and no longer in control of his destiny: “I’m already cut off like I feared/I’ll end up alone like I began,” he sings before concluding: “All the things that others want for me/Can’t buy what I want because it’s free.” Ironically nostalgic for the desperately troubled youth that inspired his best and most tormented songs, he sings on “Not for You”: “All that’s sacred comes from youth/Naive and true with no power/Nothing to do/I still remember/Why don’t you?” Like Pete Townshend, whose Quadrophenia was the soundtrack of Vedder’s adolescence, Vedder seems afraid that while once he was the Punk, he’s now the Godfather.

Vedder is also more haunted by intimations of mortality than ever before – not exactly a new theme for him but a chilling one for a record whose title means “the study of life.” The album opens with a death-obsessed song called “Last Exit,” and its final track, “Stupid-mop,” concludes with a meditation on suicide. On “Immortality,” Vedder acknowledges, “Cannot stay long/Some die just too young.”

Vitalogy has a number of gripping songs that match the soaring anthems of Ten, the extended grooves of Vs. or the poetry of either record. The first three tracks are a promising start: “Last Exit,” “Not for You” and especially “Spin the Black Circle,” a revvedup thrash tribute to vinyl, rock harder than anything Pearl Jam have ever done. “Whipping” and “Corduroy” are also hard edged and catchy. “Better Man” is a haunting ballad about a woman trapped in a bad relationship; it recalls the character study “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” on Vs. As on “Daughter,” also from Vs., Vedder’s empathy for and identification with women throughout Vitalogy is remarkably affecting and unforced.

Interspersed among the stronger tracks, though, are throwaways and strange experiments that don’t always work. The demented polka “Bugs,” which features Vedder, backed by a discordant accordion, ranting paranoiacally about insects, makes an uncharacteristic stab at humor but ends up being more silly than funny. “Pry, To” is a one-minute doodle that consists of Vedder spelling out the word privacy over and over until we get the point already.

But the most bizarre cut on the record is the last one, “Stupidmop,” a seven-minute hommage to the Beatles’ “Revolution 9.” Consisting of tape loops of distressed voices over banshee guitar howls, the song begs the question, “Is anyone still listening out there?” It opens with a young girl repeating “My spanking, that’s the only thing I want so much.” “Why is that better than a hug?” a woman asks her. “Because you get closer to the person,” the girl replies. The cut closes with a dialogue that is even more disturbing than it might ordinarily be in the wake of Kurt Cobain’s death. A man asks a woman, “Do you ever think that you actually would kill yourself?” “Well, if I thought about it real deep, I believe I would,” she answers. They’re the last words on the album.

Bart Simpson once daydreamed that he was a rock star with a phony British accent, singing, “Me Fans Are Stupid Pigs.” Some may think Vedder has reached the point where he thinks his efforts are just Pearl Jam before swine; they’ll dismiss this record as swerving dangerously close to being contemptuous of his audience. But Vitalogy isn’t Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music, nor does it seem like a tossed-off interlude like Zooropa. It’s more a portrait of an artist in crisis, a man who hasn’t yet decided what direction to take next.

My Favorite Track(s):
Immortality

Augustus Pablo

Augustus Pablo - King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown
Horace Swaby (June 21, 1954 – May 18, 1999), better known as Augustus Pablo, was a Jamaican roots reggae and dub record producer and keyboardist, active from the 1970s onwards. He was perhaps the first person to use the melodica as a viable musical instrument. He was known for his devotion to the spiritual Rastafari movement.

He was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica and learned to play the organ in Kingston College School. It was at that point an unnamed girl lent him the melodica. Fascinated by the instrument, Pablo rarely put it down. He also met Herman Chin Loy, who after working at his cousin Leslie Kong’s Beverley’s record shop, had set up his own Aquarius store in Half Way Tree. Swaby recorded early tracks including “Higgi Higgi”, “East of the River Nile”, “Song of the East”, and “The Red Sea” between 1971 and 1973 for Chin-Loy’s Aquarius Records. The name Augustus Pablo had previously been used by the producer for many of the discs he produced featuring a keyboards player, and Swaby took the name for this recording.

“East of the River Nile”, a unique blend of East Asian and Jamaican sounds, became a moderate hit. Augustus Pablo popularized the use of the melodica (an instrument used primarily to teach children music in the Jamaican public schools) in reggae music. He soon joined Now Generation (Mikey Chung’s band) and played the keyboard with them while his friend, Clive, began his own career as a record producer. Pablo and Chin recorded “Java” (1972) together, as soon as Pablo quit Now Generation and Clive was able to get the studio time, the instrumental was a massive hit, and launched Pablo’s solo career. He recorded with Chin and various others, including Leonard Chin, his uncle, and Lee Perry. He scored another smash hit with “My Desire” (John Holt).

Pablo formed labels Hot Stuff, Message and Rockers (named after his brother’s soundsystem, Rockers), and released a steady stream of well-received instrumentals, mostly versions of older hits from Studio One. In spite of his success with Rockers, Pablo’s seminal 1974 album, This Is Augustus Pablo was recorded with Clive and Pat Chin. This was followed by a collaboration with the legendary reggae engineer King Tubby to great acclaim, releasing 1975′s Ital Dub.

In the later 1970s, Pablo produced a steady stream of hits, including the hit “Black Star Liner” (Fred Locks). He also worked with Dillinger, Norris Reid, I-Roy, Jacob Miller, Te -Track, The Immortals, Paul Blackman, Earl Sixteen, Roman Stewart, Lacksley Castell, The Heptones, Ricky Grant, Delroy Williams,Junior Delgado, Horace Andy and Freddy McKay. This period was eventually commemorated with critically acclaimed LP’s including King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown (1976) and Hugh Mundell’s classic Africa Must be Free by 1983. This was followed by East of the River Nile (1978, Original Rockers 1979 and Rockers Meets King Tubby in a Firehouse, another acclaimed hit album.

In the 1980s, Pablo’s career slowed significantly. He had begun to establish an American audience, and released Rising Sun in 1986 to good reviews and sales. Pablo also produced memorable hits, including “Ragamuffin Year” (Junior Delgado), “Humble Yourself” (Asher & Tremble) and “Far Far Away” (Ricky Grant). In addition, Pablo toured extensively throughout the world, making a memorable live album in Tokyo in 1987. That same year, Rockers Come East re-established his career, and he began to release a series of critically acclaimed though somewhat inaccessible albums in the 1990s, including Blowing With the Wind and also producing several, such as Night & Day (Dawn Penn) and Jah Made Them All (Yami Bolo).

Pablo died as a result of a collapsed lung on May 18, 1999. He had been suffering for some time from the nerve disorder Myasthenia gravis.

He has a daughter named Isis, and a son named Addis.

King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown

Augustus Pablo - King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown
King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown, a/k/a King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown, is a dub album by Augustus Pablo and King Tubby, released in 1976. It features Carlton Barrett on drums, Robbie Shakespeare and Aston Barrett on bass guitar, and Earl “Chinna” Smith on guitar. Pablo produced the album and played piano, organ, and clavinet. The album was recorded at Randy’s in Kingston, Jamaica. Most of the tracks originally featured vocals by Jacob Miller.

The song “King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown” is featured on the Reggae radio station K-JAH Radio West in popular videogame Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, released in October 2004.

The album has been released on several different labels, often with slightly different track lists.
